History of Prince of Peace
In 1955, Prince of Peace Parish celebrated its first Mass in a Lake Villa public school. One year later, construction began for a school and a church. In September 1957, 211 students began attending Prince of Peace School. As the Parish continued to grow, a new church was eventually built in 1980. Since 1955, Prince of Peace has provided a Christian haven for many Catholics in this area and has grown from a few hundred families to over 2,400 families today. It has been through their generous support that Prince of Peace has developed into the thriving Parish that we now enjoy. During these 50+ years, we have consistently provided:
o A church that offers a comforting and welcoming presence to nurture our spirituality.
o A community where we come together to share our spiritual and personal lives.
o A comprehensive school & religious program that provides our children with an excellent education.
Ongoing parishioner commitments to our Grow in the Spirit campaign are providing upgrades/renovations to our school and church so that we may accommodate a growing membership and have room to welcome more. Prince of Peace plays an important role as an outstanding center for learning and provides a Christian based curriculum and program for students to develop a strong sense of community responsibility and a deeper level of spiritual maturity. We live in a world in which the negative influences can sometimes seem to outweigh the positive ones. At Prince of Peace, we strive to overcome these and achieve excellence in education that enables all students to develop to their fullest potential in their pursuit of excellence—academically, socially, and spiritually.
